Assaulted whilst on the way to a nightclub

I left a nightclub and was on my way to see some friends at another nightclub nearby.

The next thing I remember is someone standing above me being verbally abusive. I do not remember much about the assault but was told that I was severely kicked in the head.

Attacked while at a friends house

I was sitting in a friend’s house with a group of 14 other people. A commotion broke out when a neighbour came to the door with her son to pick a fight with a person who lived in the house.

My friends and I tried to leave but I was head butted in the face. My other friend was pushed into a piece of furniture and I was head butted twice more. I fell to the couch and was head butted again. I left the house around 5 minutes later.

Pub doorman assaulted whilst working

I was working as a doorman at a pub. A message was passed on through the radio about a man who had been hitting his wife and to not allow him to come into the venue.

The man’s wife asked if she could come in, she was shaking, scared and crying as he was threatening to kill her. She came into the pub and the man was stopped at the door.

The man then turned around and bottled me in the face right in my nose.

The police were called and he was arrested. I was taken to hospital by ambulance.

GP carried out an internal examination however

I attended a consultation with a locum doctor at my GP surgery regarding an existing health problem.

The GP carried out an internal examination however I had concerns about the way in which this was done. I was a student nurse at the time and felt the way the examination was carried out was unusual. I was not asked if I wanted someone with me at the time.

Following the examination I thought I would be over-reacting if I queried the procedure that was done.

Around 18 months later I was discussing my GP surgery with some friends and was told that a locum doctor there was being investigated by the police for sexual assault. It was then that I gave the examination I had more thought.

Upon contacting my surgery and subsequently the police I found that the same doctor had been charged with a number of assaults.

Gang of lads trying to get into their house

My children were asleep and I went to my neighbour’s house to help as there was a gang of lads trying to get into their house.

I asked the gang to keep the noise down and to leave. As I turned to leave two of the gang attacked me. I was hit with a bottle and knocked to the ground. The two men then used my head as a football, and kicked me several times.

The attack was unprovoked and there were witnesses. I reported what happened to the police.

Criminal Injury following a bank robbery

This is a case study of a recent criminal injury case that we have dealt with The following is a summarised "real life" case.

Victim of a bank raid In this case our client was inside a bank making a deposit. The bank was very busy because it was a Friday morning.

The claimant observed two men jostling behind her and pushing their way forward in the queue. She assumed that they were just being unruly but one of the individuals then pulled on a stocking mask and revealed a gun.

It became clear what their intentions were - customers ran for the bank exits but the claimant was unable to and had no choice but to watch what unfolded.

She was forced to sit on the floor whilst the robber shouted demands at the staff. She was also threatened and had a gun pointed at her during the ordeal.

The claimant - whilst not physically injured, suffered psychologically from the accident for a period of more than two years. She received £8200 in compensation from the CICA.

This type of criminal injury case is thankfully rare but it shows that injuries need not necessarily be physical so long as they are proven to result from the event or crime itself.
