In what has been described as a bold technological initiative Staffordshire police have revealed their plans to identify web users who watch graphic images or videos of children suffering abuse online.
Advancements in digital forensic tools mean that skilled technicians can locate which IP or computer accessed certain videos and images that are deemed to be child abuse orientated. This is a pre-emptive measure which according to the force, will lead to protecting vulnerable children who are caught up in online abuse rings.
Known as Operation Safenet, the initiative has been lauded by childrens charities and safeguarding groups. The Staff police link for more on this initiative can be found here
