The NSPCC has published its annual 'How safe are our children?' report on the extent of abuse and neglect in the UK.
Among the many findings which cover a broad range of issues across all 4 countries in the UK there have been sharp increases in the number of recorded sexual offences against children over the last year. Phone calls and email / text contact has also increased exponentially on the NSPCC helpline and ChildLine regarding sexual abuse.
However it remains the case that neglect is the most common form of child abuse in the UK. Behavioral issues with family members and a lack of understanding in dealing with care, day to day needs continue to be of major concern.
