In this section we
discuss a number of criminal injury cases that we have dealt
with recently
The
intention is to illustrate the type of claims that we can actively
deal with whilst demonstrating the
CICA compensation
levels that can be achieved with our expertise.
The following are summarised "real life" cases:
Victim of a bank raid (click for more details) In this case our
client was inside a bank making a deposit when she was confronted by
an armed robber who was making his way to the counter. She was forced
to sit on the floor whilst the robber shouted demands at the staff.
She was also threatened and had a gun pointed at her during the
ordeal. The claimant - whilst not physically injured, suffered
psychologically from the accident for a period of more than two years.
She received £8200 in compensation from the CICA
An assault in the street The claimant in this case was walking
down a busy high street when he was singled out by a group of football
fans. Despite having no football scarf or strip to identify him he was
accused of being a supporter of a rival team and was set upon. He was
beaten quite badly and suffered a broken wrist, severe bruising and
concussion. With our help he was awarded £3400 in compensation form
the CICA.
Sports related assault The victim here was a rugby player who was
attacked whilst playing against a lower ranked local team. On
opposition player who he did not know and had not encountered
previously on the field of play, struck a blow to his face that broke
his jaw. The incident occurred off the ball and was deemed by
witnesses to be unprovoked. Despite the fact that the claimant was
playing a physical sport, the injuries suffered were solely as a
result of malicious wounding and nothing at all to do with the general
rough and tumble of a rugby match. The police pressed charges against
the assailant and we dealt with the compensation claim under the CICA
scheme. The claimant recovered £3750 in compensation.
